Austria is a superb year-round holiday destination, with plenty of winter sports in the Alps, some of the most impressive architecture in Europe and an unrivalled musical tradition. The cities have plenty to engage visitors. Vienna is the capital, hub of the country's musical life and littered with beautiful buildings. Music, art and architecture reach baroque perfection in Salzburg, Mozart's birthplace. The Austrian countryside is dominated by the Alps offering superb winter skiing from world famous resorts and in the summer is a hive for cyclists and walkers.

About Salzburgerland

The Sportwelt Amadé comprises eight holiday resorts dotted among the valleys of the Dachstein and Tauern mountains. With stunning scenery, breathtaking views and some of the best skiing in the world it is easy to see why Austria has become a favourite destination. Owing to the geography of the mountain ranges this is a snow-sure area. The Sportwelt Amadé also uses extensive snow making machines. The principal town of the Pinzgau region is Zell am See although it is not the largest town. Saalbach in the Saalfelden basin has that honour. Saalbach being low in the valley it does not offer skiing, although the nearby resorts of Maria Alm, Hintermoos, Hinterthal and Zellermoos provide fantastic skiing. Zell am See is located on the largest lake in Salzburgerland and provides the town with a popular summer tourist destination as well as winter ski. Close to Zell am See is the ski resorts of Kaprun and Rauris. Kaprun is on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier and gives guaranteed winter skiing.

About Styria

Styria is the second largest province in Austria with its capital city of Graz being on the border with Slovenia. Styria is predominately mountainous, with many forests, pastures, and meadowlands. The north west region of Styria borders Salzburgerland, with the towns of Schladming and Ramsau and the Dachstein Glacier making up part of the Sportwelt Amade

About Tirol

Innsbruck in Tirol - Nestling at the foot of the Alps, Innsbruck's Olympic Ski World offers eight ski areas and twenty-five village resorts. With 270kms of downhill runs, 76 ski lifts and extensive snowmaking equipment, Innsbruck has earned the reputation of the winter sports capital. Home to the Winter Olympics on two occasions, the varied ski-able terrain, back country terrain with deep powder stashes and the snow board parks are kept in peak condition at all times. 

About Upper Austria

Upper Austria is part of the Salzkammergut region, which stretches east from the city of Salzburg to the Dachstein mountain range. The Salzkammergut also encompasses Austria’s most famous spa, Bad Ischl. There are over 2000km of cycling paths, and one of Europe’s most favoured is here, along the river Danube. For hikers there are many routes, through the forests, down valleys and up mountains there are a multitude of walks here. The main ski resort in Upper Austria is located in the south of the region, the Dachstein West, which has over 140km of piste.
